Emily Bishop at 2020 AOPA National Assembly

 

In this recorded presentation, Dr. Emily Bishop discusses research findings on Levitation’s assistive moment and effect on pain at the 2020 AOPA National Assembly. Dr. Bishop, along with other researchers at the McCaig Institute for Bone and Joint Health (University of Calgary), examined the biomechanical effects of the Levitation Tri-compartment Offloader (TCO) in patients with multi-compartment knee OA. The results of the study showed that wearing a TCO improved knee support during key actions and movements, and significantly reduced pain scores compared to other bracing conditions.

Multiple Forces Reduced

Each TCO brace model significantly reduced PF, TF, PC ligament, PT and QT forces during a deep knee bend test.

Reduced Joint Load

Each TCO brace model significantly reduced knee joint loads by at least 32% when compared to the non-braced condition.

Replicates & Extends Previous Research

Results corroborate the knee joint offloading capabilities of a TCO, as demonstrated in a previous study (Budarick et al. 2020).
